ABSTRACT

The concepts and theories elaborated in this book provide a new perspective to understanding the complex nature of school effectiveness and school-based management (SBM) in the light of paradigm shift in education in the new century. Integrating the recent developments in research, practice, and policy, the theory of school-based development mechanism provides an innovative comprehensive framework to reconceptualize and manage the internal school process towards the third-wave education in a dynamic way. This concluding chapter aims to consolidate the implications generated from the new ideas and perspectives in the book for future research and development on school effectiveness, SBM and paradigm shift in education. It first discusses the characteristics of the first-wave, second-wave, and third-wave research and then addresses the issues of future developments of school effectiveness and SBM and their related research in promoting the third-wave reforms in a new era.
