ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to discuss how to initiate and manage the change of a school from the traditional mode of external control management towards a form of self-management practice not only at the school site level but also the group and individual levels. The chapter illustrates how multi-level self-management can be implemented successfully to pursue multiple school effectiveness in a dynamic way. It also reports an empirical study to show how the strengths of multi-level self-management are closely related to the performance of school organization, working groups, and individual members in different aspects. The findings provide interesting evidence to deepen the understanding and support the implementation of multi-level self-management locally and internationally. The ideas and strategies proposed in this chapter provide comprehensive insights for practitioners to develop their plans to launch and implement multi-level self-management.
