ABSTRACT

In a classroom setting, the instructor can usually judge how well students are engaged and understanding. Such a judgment is more difficult in an online setting. One simple strategy to make such a determination is to include a fast feedback form at the end of a lesson. Such feedback can inform the next lesson and the next offering of the online course. In addition to preparing and supporting instructors new to online learning, some students also require training and support. In some K–12 situations, it may also be important to allow parents access to online learning resources and keep parents informed of student progress. Few institutions recognize the extra burdens placed on online instructors. Even worse, some institutions enlist less experienced instructors to lead online courses.
