ABSTRACT

Within the context of values pertaining to educational technology, it is perhaps worth mentioning the value of a skeptical predisposition regarding the application of educational technology to improve learning and performance. There is a substantial history of educational technologists promising that the introduction and use of a particular technology will yield dramatic improvements in learning and instruction. Communication skills are important to everyone in almost every profession. Educational technologists, whether they are developers, designers, instructors, or technology specialists, have a need to communicate clearly and effectively with others, and particularly with persons having different backgrounds and training than their own. From a foundations perspective, communication theories and principles form key aspects of the effective use of educational technology.
