ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces low-carbon development patterns as a climate mitigation strategy targeted at reducing emissions from transportation. Low-carbon development patterns are characterized by increased densities and a diversity of uses in transit-accessible locations. This chapter discusses the characteristics of low-carbon development patterns and links the concept to other planning paradigms such as growth management and transit-oriented development.
