ABSTRACT
This concluding chapter challenges the notion that we have made progress when it comes to celebrity culture. Recent re-evaluations of the treatment of female celebrities, like Britney Spears, have sparked public debate over these issues. However, there are many continuities across Spears’ treatment and that of highly popular female figures today. The chapter concludes by looking to the future and a day where the often-invisibilized billionaires who hold immense power are publicly held to the same highly critical standards that young, female celebrities have been subject to for years.
