ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the economic and political consequences of the coronavirus pandemic in terms of its impact on equity, income distribution, the fate of communities of color, a number of workforce sectors and the ability of ordinary citizens to carve out a viable space for meeting their everyday health, food and medical care needs. Whether a matter of vulnerability to the virus, access to healthcare, ability to get vaccinated or preserving crucial service sector employment and healthcare related work, the pandemic has exposed and exacerbated the precarity of Americans’ everyday lives and has intensified anti-democratic tendencies across the country and globally.
