ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the ramifications of the PRC’s engagement and presence in the Maghreb region, primarily through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) (一带一路), also referred to as the new Silk Road. It presents a methodological analysis that identifies and characterizes China’s grand strategy (大战略), analyzing the new Silk Road components (policy coordination, facilities connectivity, enhancement of trade, financial integration, and people-to-people bond), and evaluates how successful the PRC might be at implementing these over the following decades.
