ABSTRACT

Chapter 9 will set out to answer the question of whether impeachment can be revised as tore-engineer the UK Constitution and to shift a greater focus towards political accountability and the protection of the constitution. This question will be addressed in this chapter, which draws upon the previous chapters in the book in order to present a blueprint for a revised procedure for impeachment. The chapter will consist of three parts. The first will be to consider the other chapters within this book. The second will be to outline the proposed blueprint for a revised form of impeachment. The third will be to set out the proposed Impeachment Act. Together the three parts will envisage how impeachment could operate alongside the existing political accountability mechanisms and buttress the existing powers of the House of Commons. The purpose of Chapter 9 is to show how, despite the arguments against, impeachment could feasibly operate again in the United Kingdom.
