ABSTRACT

This part of the book introduces the phenomenon of smart tourism destination governance. Changes in the tourism market, the rapid evolution of information technology and the need for sustainability gave rise to the concept of smart tourism. Many tourism destinations started to adopt the smart approach to their development, which challenges their governance. The introduction identifies that so far, the contribution of smart tourism destination governance has been analysed mainly conceptually and the research lacks empirical research. Therefore, the aim of the book is to provide conceptual foundations of smart tourism destination governance, empirically analyse the contribution of smart approach to overcoming the identified challenges and to design new perspectives for smart destination governance.
