ABSTRACT
The concluding chapter identifies democratic decline as already having become well established and argues that, without a significant act of political will, this – and its autocratic replacement – may constitute a permanent political feature of global politics. Democracy, and in particular liberal democracy, will likely continue in some places due to deeply embedded public will. But, this concluding chapter proposes, it may be that democracy's era as the dominant political idea has already started to come to a close.
