ABSTRACT

Pandemics have attacked mankind since ancient ages, though the scale of impact has varied, with the density of population, the extent of globalization, and connectivity being the major influencers. The 1918 Spanish influenza pandemic, the most terrible pandemic in the 20th century, infected one-third of the world’s population, and killed roughly 50 million people, recording more mortalities than World War I. Taiwan leveraged big data analytics and communication technologies to foresee and proactively guide their citizens in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data analytics can help businesses design their investment portfolio by determining the products, services, capital projects, markets, and people to invest in; determine which disruptive events might necessitate a modification in strategy, monitor for irregularities and patterns that may reveal a threat or opportunity, and determine the best actions to take if these disruptive events occur.
