ABSTRACT

The vast majority of individuals with eating disorders endorse “comparison” as one of the most (and perhaps the most) distressing body image struggles they face; in fact, most define it as the most difficult part of their eating disorder altogether. In this chapter, body comparison is addressed as an epidemic that is spread, enabled, and even prescribed by the toxicity of social media. In this chapter, space is provided for universality among readers to relate with specific comparison examples. Most importantly, readers benefit from learning how to break the chains of body comparison to instead live their fullest lives outside of body obsession. The activity in this chapter is writing “comebacks.” In this activity, a thought of comparison will be documented and met with a “comeback” statement.
