ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the therapeutic practice of mindfulness, making the choice to engage in neutral thoughts toward the body, and a thorough dive into five practical ways to engage in body neutrality on a daily basis. Five ways to be body neutral daily include: (1) using neutral language in self-talk and to others about bodies, (2) practicing self-care (particularly physical movement) in neutral ways, (3) approaching food from a neutral perspective, (4) choosing clothing based on needs and comfort, (5) and using a mirror for its intended purposes (instead of body checking or shaming). This chapter concludes with two assignments: the “Body Negativity and Neutrality Map” and the “Fingernail Writing Assignment.”
