ABSTRACT

This chapter examines appropriate priorities and how to identify personal values. This chapter begins by chronicling a typical day in the author’s life during her battle with body image. This description demonstrates how body obsession and body-checking overshadowed her authentic values such as social connectivity, time with loved ones, and outdoor recreation. Likewise, readers are encouraged to discover their own values and evaluate their current priorities based upon what consumes the majority of their time, thoughts, and energy. The chapter concludes by contrasting the misery of the author’s past with the joy she experiences in the present. Chapter activities include a value identification exercise and a writing exercise in regards to practicing the opposite action skill.
