ABSTRACT

In an attempt to bridge academic research and years of management experience on the subject, I have developed my own conceptual and analytical framework that can act as the basis for assessing the level of engagement and designing interventions to improve it. It involves a straw-man causal model that I’ve applied in different organizations, which requires bespoke modifications to reflect the sectoral as well as cultural context. In this chapter, I set out my definition and operationalization of engagement as a construct before I go on to discuss academic research on the subject.
