ABSTRACT

This chapter teaches some technical elements of recording relatedness, but it is much more concerned with presumptions about family, kin and relatedness, and about how understanding connections and their results brings particular kinds of insights in unexpected ways. One of those ways directly concerns the university – how do one’s connections bring us to this privileged place? The chapter serves as an undergirding to the idea that students need imagination more than they need a complete technical mastery to make genealogical methods animate how people are connected.
