ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the final two episodes of the game—“Sam Strand” and “Lou” and how they provide a resolution to the complex narrative threads that the player has explored over many hours of gameplay. Sam’s bond with Amelie proves to be a vital connection, as it allows Amelie to see the value in humanity and avoids her assuming her intended role as the Extinction Entity. Sam’s actions with regards to Lou speak to both his willingness to forge a new connection, something he has largely avoided throughout the story, but one that also sees him opt to forge a life outside of the United Cities of America. For Sam, the danger of nostalgia in terms of how the United Cities of America might be governed remains a valid concern, so he decides to survive on his own, and to be a father to Lou, after Lou is successfully removed from his artificial womb.
