ABSTRACT

With reference to the political philosophy of Thomas Hobbes, this chapter poses the question of whether peace of some form is even possible in the cyber domain, inasmuch as it now resembles in fact the purely hypothetical “state of nature” posited originally by Hobbes. Reframing the problematic question of the postulated “necessary transition” out of that original position, this chapter asks where do we stand, what may we hope for, and what needs to be done specifically to move us toward that elusive goal in the cyber domain.
