ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the study context, including teacher and learner participant recruitment, profiles and groupings; the convergent and divergent task design employed for lessons, and the data collection procedure that was followed to comprise the semi-controlled corpus that forms the dataset. It also focuses on our original methodological framework and its operalisation, namely Grounded Theory and Multimodal (Inter)action Analysis. The chapter details the key analytical tools employed, their systematic implementation, and the processes and choices involved in producing multimodal transcripts for extracts presented in the analysis chapters.
