ABSTRACT

This chapter draws the book to a close with some additional words of wisdom from high-profile professional engineers and producers. Working on a budget should not prevent you achieving commercial-quality recordings, and small-studio work actually offers many creative advantages. While this book attempts to provide a kind of ‘virtual apprenticeship’, fledgling engineers 402should seek out as much practical experience as they can to develop not just their engineering skills, but their production instincts, whether that experience pays the bills or not. You should never stop learning, and should make a point of revisiting session experiences (good or bad) after the fact to consolidate that learning. Finally, remember that the way you work will influence the music itself.
