ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the impact of the errand upon indigenous women and their native lands. We explore and examine the relationship between the Cree and their lands as exemplified by Linda Hogan’s Solar Storms. The history of white patriarchal colonization, and its violent impact on indigenous women and the ecological integrity of their natural spaces, is revealed in all of its violent manifestations. Furthermore, the theme of transgenerational trauma inaugurated by Eurocentric colonizers is traced throughout the novel and we examine the ways the matriarchal Crees seek to heal the trauma while protecting their remaining territories.
