ABSTRACT

Whenever there is a prospect of a program being reviewed, there is an automatic reflex to seek information about its impact. Increasingly, all things in business are calibrated according to impact measures, including the altruistic reaches of education which once enjoyed more faith and idealistic parameters. Investigating the metaphorical history of the word, this chapter reveals a backdrop of negative associations, which in many ways are tellingly perpetuated in current neurotic usage throughout the global educational system.
