ABSTRACT

Despite an overwhelming emphasis on syllabus design, with its staunch commitment to constructive alignment, students value the passion and even eccentricity of their teachers, not their conformity to rules. Following the metaphor of colour, this chapter seeks a clearer understanding of the personal factors of teaching, the privacy of the teacher’s ownership of knowledge which transfers magically to the privacy of the student’s ownership of knowledge. It depends on an imaginative exploration of the rich dimensions of knowledge, especially the application and properness of knowledge to certain aspects of personality.
