ABSTRACT

Epistemology is the branch of philosophy devoted to the formal study of knowledge, including the methods by which we claim to know or understand the world. Though children and many adults interpret their worlds through the words and instructions of authorities, there are many alternative and competing methodologies. Methods employed by lawyers, religious leaders, scientists, mathematicians, and business leaders vary widely and often lead to different conclusions. This chapter focuses on problems associated with singular methodologies and the values of examining the world via multiple sets of lenses.
