ABSTRACT

In this last chapter, the immediate post-war scenario is discussed. For the people of North East India, the end of the war did not bring back normalcy to their lives. While the scarcity of food and basic commodities engulfed their day-to-day lives, the political issues hovering around the land development policies, the East Pakistan question and the release of Congress leaders, both national and provincial who had been incarcerated since 1942, are at the centre of our discussion. Finally, however, the overall impact of the war is discussed in terms of its legacies for post-independent India.
