ABSTRACT

The Totally Inclusive University Audit (TIUA) is essentially a means of assessing where our institution is placed on the continuum (or journey) towards becoming Totally Inclusive. Human resource managers can readily use the TIUA in order to acquire a more precise understanding of what has been achieved and what more needs to be achieved. They may approach this task by a quantitative methodology – asking all stakeholders to answer questions on the TIAU, and/or via a more qualitative approach – e.g., individual in-depth interviews with representative stakeholders plus focus groups. The institutional-wide TI learning/change process is no different from any professionalisation process. At first it may feel unfamiliar, be viewed with some cynicism, and co-opting academics especially may prove difficult, but so long as it is persisted with, then over time it will become part of the university culture, climate, systems and expectations.
