ABSTRACT

Leaders are in positions of power. They have the potential to promote well-being, purpose, and the provision of services to those in need, or the potential of causing significant harm to staff, clients, the community, and their profession. This chapter proposes trauma-informed principles as ethical principles for leaders of all types including group therapists, psychodramatists, organizational leaders, community leaders, supervisors, trainers, and educators. The importance of ethics, humility, relationships, vulnerability, and courage will be highlighted as it relates to leadership. Cultural responsiveness and humility will be revisited in the context of leadership in general. Suggestions for leaders will be articulated including prompts for critical reflection. Trends and new directions in trauma-informed care, group work, psychodrama, and leadership will be presented as we look to the future toward a culture of trauma-informed ethical leadership in all sectors.
