ABSTRACT

Writing can be an intimidating process for many people, no matter what their age. It can be revealing—too revealing. Some people just don’t want to share intimate details about their thoughts, feelings and lives, at least not with others in a class or group. They may not have the level of trust necessary, and quite possibly for very good reason. Or they may not have the confidence necessary. Or they may simply be very private people. Writing does not have to be a psychological journey, and neither does it have to be limited to reports and other fact-based work. All the playful daily writing prompts in Unjournaling are entirely impersonal, easing the way for hesitant writers while still challenging the creativity of more experienced writers. They take writers out of themselves and involve them in playing with words, inventing characters, imagining and writing about situations involving others, and much more.
