ABSTRACT

THE weeks succeeded one another, with few events to chronicle, and almost before David was aware of it, summer had come to London. His office duties, which he had at first welcomed, were, to tell the truth, already beginning to be tedious, and it was always with a sigh of relief that twice, or occasionally three times, a week he made his way to Red Hall. There, if he had only known, his lessons were awaited by his pupils as eagerly as they were by himself.
