ABSTRACT

I am Sun, the Flying Tiger. At present the Empire is in a state of disorder. My Commander-in-Chief, Ting Wên-ya, has been discharging his duties in an irregular manner. I have been given a separate command of five thousand soldiers, including cavalry, to guard Ho-Ch’iao. I have ascertained that Ying-ying, the daughter of the late Prime Minister, Ts’ui Chüeh, has black eyebrows with a winning expression, a face as beautiful as the lotus in spring, and is of such overwhelming charm as makes her the peer of the most famous beauties of old. She is now in the P’u Chiu Monastery, where the coffin of her late father is resting, and where she is at present living. On the fifteenth of the second moon a religious service was held in memory of her father, at which many people saw her. When I reflect that even my chief is irregular in his conduct, why should I not follow his example? Officers and soldiers, listen to my command! All you men, with your mouths gagged, and the horses bitted, march all night long to the Prefecture of Ho-chung, and forcibly capture Ying-ying to be my wife. Then the desire of my life will be completely fulfilled!
