ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses of attention in the consideration of health is the welfare of the individual and the availability of doctors and nurses. The significance of health service supplies increases with the awareness of rising demand for health care throughout the world. The work of supplies managers in most organisations is largely concerned with routine purchasing of standard requirements. The chief needs of both parties having been defined by assessment of purpose, specification, and pricing, the formal legal contract should become a much simpler process of negotiation. A satisfactory supplies system implies the existence of a few authorised buyers who would be required to take very careful advice from specialists and whose decisions would be carefully monitored by administrators and users. A proper system for the receipt, custody, and issue of stores is an essential part of a supplies system and one which it is relatively easy to assess objectively.
