ABSTRACT

Research reports tend to exclude an account of how co-operation was obtained from individuals and organisations being studied. While such comments and reservations are reasonable these give some grounds for concern at the anxiety generated by this modest enquiry, however slight and varied. The inner London areas of this region are densely populated, with a surplus of acute bed provision, while the Essex area has a current deficiency of acute services and a growing population. The region intends that work on the adaptation of the National Supplies Vocabulary should begin at area level, with areas supplies officers submitting items to be classified into a local vocabulary. The area is in the process of cutting down the variety of internal requisition forms which is a gradual process, related to the two main systems of internal ordering at present operating in the area.
