ABSTRACT

This chapter charts the development of men's work from the early 1990s to today. From katabasis, the creative crisis of “going down”, men's work has become defensive, going back to unreconstructed views of masculinity. At present, most cultural representations of masculinity are essentialist. Can psychotherapy theory and practice help construct new representations of masculinity as performative, fluid, and as a turning point to a deeper form of inquiry?
