ABSTRACT

Material listed in the figure is far from an exhaustive list, as such lists are impossible. It is meant merely to be an illustration of what is possible. The fact that one component is more fundamental than the others is visible in the overlaps in orientation to the components that we have identified. Orientation to stake and interest, or truth and ability, are rarely seen as standing alone, and a cluster of indicators will often consist of displays of orientations to two or more components, one being to truth and honesty. The interactional construction and negotiation of trustworthiness is both context- and role-specific. The trust methodology study also aims to contribute to the development of the empirical explication and examination of trust, trusting and trustworthiness, by drawing together different methodologies and disciplines. It could seem like an open-and-shut case to discuss whether it would be possible to take our work further and outline its practical implications.
