ABSTRACT
The communists are responsible for the silliness of social realism in art and literature; no one is responsible for the sustained imbecility of our press, nor for the present spiritual vacuum in the Anglo-Saxon countries, least of all the academics. Classical objectivity which is essentially the refusal to accept the ineluctable limitations of the perspective is also a choice enabling the monk to decline the responsibilities of the participation and (which comes to the same thing) enabling the messiah to act independently of the special requirements of a particular situation. Relativity, the quantum theory and phenomenology came into being within a very few years of each other, and in each case, a non-existent everything is given up in order to obtain a tangible more; in each case ‘blanket’ concepts are declared to be covering far less than had been hoped.
