ABSTRACT

This chapter will overview the work that took place during the summer of 2020, three months prior to launching New Code Academy elementary including building the curriculum, hiring and onboarding teachers, and recruiting families. Developing a school (online or brick-and-mortar) in three months is a very short timeline and not recommended beyond emergency situations. Within the chapter, readers will be presented with tangible activities and strategies to collect input from teachers and create curriculum and assessment informed by online pedagogy. Additionally, strategies for staffing and hiring an online school will be shared.
