ABSTRACT

Live or synchronous class meetings are the closest element to traditional in-person instruction; however, they require different norms, facilitation, and skills for both students and teachers. In this chapter, readers will be introduced to the different types of live class meetings within the New Code Academy school day including: morning meeting, content area instruction, differentiated small groups, unstructured work rooms, and closing circle. Additionally this chapter will give specific teaching strategies and activities for encouraging interaction, movement, the use of breakout rooms, and the power of the doc camera.
