ABSTRACT
Differing audiences may expect different things. A conservative or traditional academic journal might look for one thing. There is the community of those being studied, the academic community, the government community, the educational community, the publishing community, and the general public. As qualitative research became more widely used and legitimate, scholars began to question adoption of the criteria. The Impressionist movement was popular in the mid- to late 1800s. It is generally considered one of the most popular and well-received artistic movements today. The researcher seeks an objective reality; thus, the researcher's role is to find a way to observe the phenomena and remain outside the system. As qualitative research began to take hold, many were unsure how to judge this type of research. Journal editors tended to rely on traditional criteria, and many journals were reluctant to publish research that did not appear to fit the format of traditional research.
