ABSTRACT

In the decade of 2020s, there is increased encouragement to write in ways that are engaging, challenging, and reflective of all. As a student in college or graduate school, you have been taught a number of characteristics of academic or technical writing. Scholars generally agree that the earliest form of writing appeared almost 5,500 years ago in Mesopotamia. A number of scholars suggest moving away from a formal and scientific format. The ideas about communicating in alternative manners are not actually new. Ethnography is one of the first qualitative research designs used in education. There is no agreed upon standard or way to write an ethnography. As autoethnography became popular, personal stories became popular. The American Psychological Association style Publication Manual is considered the bible of technical writing in the social sciences. It is the goal of qualitative research to acknowledge the individuals studied and to reflect their voices.
