ABSTRACT

Qualitative researchers face a number of problems, especially when studying vulnerable populations. Since qualitative research involves dynamic and interactional practices, there are complex ethical responsibilities. In a group of blogs, you will find illuminating considerations about both researchers and the ethics committees. While universities have established Review Boards as a consequence of receiving federal funds, school systems usually do not have a research program of their own. Any individual participating in a research study has a reasonable expectation that information provided to the researcher will be treated in a confidential manner. Individuals participating in a research study have a reasonable expectation that they will be informed of the nature of the study and may choose whether or not to participate.
