ABSTRACT

A collaboration among nursing professionals from the US, UK, and South Korea used tweets posted by nursing students to study issues they posted during the pandemic. Studying people in their natural settings is a powerful way to learn about the world and people in it. A survey or an experiment won't provide very insightful answers to these questions. Some topics and questions seem to fit well into the qualitative domain. Others fit neatly into a quantitative approach. Still others seem to fit into some combined niche. Qualitative questions address meaning or understanding or interpretation or action. Qualitative questions address sociological, psychological, or political aspects. Qualitative researchers have studied surviving during school shootings, identifying and teaching the undocumented, experiences of outsiders in higher education, and outdoor recreation experiences for visually impaired youth.
