ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author shares stories about performing—or not performing—during the COVID-19 pandemic. Evan shares insights into how he pivoted to virtual performing and what he learned as a result of this emotional and theatrical adjustment. The author describes in detail how the loss of performance opportunities was a form of mourning, akin to the stages of grief developed by pioneering psychologist Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. Finally, Evan presents excerpts from a specially written version of “Shards” created specifically for an online worldwide audience during the Jewish holiday of Passover.
