ABSTRACT
This chapter sketches the life of Joan Robinson and her academic career. It is stressed that her university education and academic working at Cambridge University, known for its discrimination against women, has shaped her personality. Special attention is devoted to her friendship with Michał Kalecki and Piero Sraffa, and to her political convictions as “left-wing Keynesian”.
