ABSTRACT

Kristina Dousharm of KDA has been working at Hutton Brickyards for four years and their role and the project have evolved from site planning to the restoration of a historic building. The site, one of the few properties that sits directly on the Hudson River without a train track between it and the water, contained clay deposits and the Hutton Brick Works Company, one of many brick manufacturing plants located along the river, that was in operation from 1865 until 1980. Several existing buildings have been adaptively reused as venue spaces, the open-air seasonal restaurant, and as a guest house. Twenty site-built cabins with river side porches, and additional cabins built in Wisconsin and then driven to New York, are arranged on the unique site. The historic Edgewood Mansion has been recently renovated adding 12 additional guest suites and an all-season bar and restaurant to the lodging and event complex.
