ABSTRACT

Moto Designshop helped save and adaptively reuse the four-story brick building at 1307 Locust Street, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They worked with the clients and the all-woman interiors team from Rohe Creative to renovate the 1851 building that formerly served as the headquarters for the New Century Working Woman's Guild from 1906 until 2016. Each guest room suite highlights the life of and captures the spirit of one member of the Guild. The design team had a reverence for the materials that were already in place and worked to preserve as much as they could out of respect for the building. The scale and proportions of the rooms provide a quiet, cozy space for reflection surrounded by historic detailing and a handcrafted and human quality in the surfaces and architectural elements.
