ABSTRACT

Prellwitz Chilinski Associates worked with a multi-disciplinary design team, including art and design consultants Adam&Co, Provenance Hotels, as well as local artists and makers on this adaptive reuse of a 1950s-era YWCA dormitory building into The Revolution Hotel that celebrates Boston's many innovations. The existing building was transformed into a welcoming place that re-engages with the street and community with a new restaurant opening up into the existing courtyard. The hotel lobby is anchored by the large Innovation Tower installation, created in partnership with local artists The Individuals Collective, showcasing items invented in Boston, Massachusetts. The guest rooms also feature scenic artwork by local artists, including Washington Allston's paintings that showcase song lyrics from iconic local musicians. A variety of compact rooms – there are 41 different room layouts – and a compelling price point help ensure the hotel is visited by both families and younger generations of business travelers.
