ABSTRACT

Social media, televised political debates, peer discussions, and even parental modeling can accentuate positive and negative role modeling and citizenship development. This chapter provides a step-by-step process for conducting a class discussion. The skills, values, and procedures students learn through this process can be utilized throughout the school year and will benefit them throughout their lives, which include empathizing, active listening, distinguishing fact from opinion, using multiple sources to distinguish fact from opinion, and being able to distinguish relevant from irrelevant arguments.

There are 30 sample activities in this chapter.
