ABSTRACT

School-wide practices that prioritize play send the systemic message that this is a place for children. A child’s way of learning through play is valued and adults in the school are willing to communicate and teach in the child’s language. There are many systemic practices that can be implemented to support a culture of play and promote ideal learning experiences. This chapter introduces school-wide practices and initiatives that can be implemented to support play and relationships across the school. This chapter also provides tips on how to advocate for integration of playful activities that support all players in the school, including children, teachers, administrators, parents, and other schools staff members.
