ABSTRACT

Many people in recent years have come to support the defense of animals, to oppose those practices that harm them, and to favor those measures that help them. What are the reasons to do so? The purpose of this book is to present them. The core of the argument is very simple, even if its implications are vast and in some cases unexpected: animals can feel and suffer. Due to this, there is no reason not to care for their interests as we would if they were human beings. Despite this, humans harm nonhumans in many different ways and typically disregard the interests of those in need of aid. However, the reasons to oppose this are much more intuitive than most people may think at first.
